My laptop is broke, can I swap the motherboard/guts,into another laptop, so I don't loose everything?

I have a Toshiba Satelite A205 series. It fell off a shelf and the LCD screen and casing cracked. I want to be able to take all of the important stuff ( files, pictures, etc) Motherboard, hard drive out of my broken one and put it into a used one.
So my question is, Does it have to be the same laptop or can it be a different model or series.
Any help is greatly appericated. Thanks

You wont be able to do that, sorry. You should be have to take out the hard drive though.
