I want to built a deck over my tank how big a steel I beam would have to be to span 3.5 metres?
This deck would have a kitchen and seating on it as well as normal people traffic up to 20 on occasions the total deck area is quite large about 120 sq metres but it is only over the water tank that i have to span this large of a distance without posts under it
You might get a cheaper way by giving your lumber yard your measurement and have them order you custom engineered beams and give you the correct specs on how much material you need and the cost, If you are going to be the general contractor, then use the pros's as much as you can, I would have an engineer draw it up because of the unusual place it is at so you don't guess wrong and somebody gets really hurt or die. 20 people suing can bite really hard if it collapses
